Obituary of Lorraine A. Szamatulski
Lorraine A. (Yasinski) Szamatulski, age 92, of Trumbull passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley M. Szamatulski. Born in Scranton, PA, on November 14, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Bavedas) Yasinski. Lorraine obtained her bachelor's degree in nursing from St. Vincent's School of Nursing, a second bachelor's degree in religious studies from Sacred Heart University and then ultimately a master's degree in religious studies, also from Sacred Heart University. Lorraine's career in nursing spanned over 40 years and included caregiving at St. Vincent's Medical Center, St. Joseph Manor and as a private duty nurse, where she built many friendships along the way.
Her philosophy was to live deliberately in the present moment, because she believed that's truly all we have. She saw life as an adventure to be embraced, not a mystery to be solved, and through her actions, Lorraine showed us what it means to live boldly and fully.
She was a music lover and an avid fan of the UConn Women's Basketball program and the New York Yankees. She was an amazing artist and some of the paintings that she created will be treasured by her family for generations to come. Her joy of gardening helped her to create floral gardens that were meticulously cared for and a true sight to behold -often being compared to a fine painting by Monet.
Lorraine was a true academic in every sense of the world. A woman of remarkable curiosity — books were never far from her hands. She taught her family to keep asking questions, to think deeply, and to never stop growing. But for all her love of knowledge, it was love itself that defined her most. Her greatest joy was found in the simple, sacred moments spent with her family - gathered around a table, sharing stories, offering advice, or simply being together on "cake Sundays."
A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend of many, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her devoted children, Mark Szamatulski of Trumbull, Dr. Mary Pulido and her husband Jorge, who she considered her 3rd son, of Bronx, NY, David Szamatulski and his wife Deanna of Grandview, TX, Laura Szamatulski of Trumbull and Lyn Szamatulski, also of Trumbull, her cherished grandchildren, Julie Glass and her husband Rick, Kasey Szamatulski, Spenser Szamatulski, Amberly Johns and her husband Ben, Noella Duh and her husband Paul, Paulette Schmidt and her husband Eric and Rob Blain and his wife Alice Voong, her brother, Joseph Yasinski, and her sisters, Barbara Yasinski and partner Patricia Damiani, who she considered her best friend, and Janet Powell and her husband Ray, as well as seven adored great grandchildren and several close nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her beloved husband Stan, she was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Tess Szamatulski, her granddaughter, Sara Szamatulski-Silva and her sister-in-law, Barbara Yasinski.
