Obituary of Ronald D. Simms Jr.

Ronald D. Simms, Jr., age 69, of Oxford and formerly of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Margaret Mastrony Simms, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Bridgeport on September 19, 1956, he was the son of the late Ronald D. Simms, Sr. and Norene Carey Simms. A graduate of Notre Dame High School, Class of 1975, Ronnie proudly served six years in the United States Marine Corps and was a decorated veteran.

A proud Marine, he specialized as a Military Police Officer and was a member of the elite Marine Corps Embassy Security Group—an assignment reserved for the highest-caliber Marines who demonstrate exceptional skill, discipline, and integrity. In this role, he served and protected U.S. Embassies in Iran, Cyprus, and Tokyo, representing the nation with honor. Ronnie also served aboard Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1) "Nighthawks" as part of the Presidential Helicopter Security Staff, providing direct support to Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.

Following his military service, Ronnie was employed as a security guard at U.S. Surgical and later with JB Hunt. He went on to serve the City of Bridgeport Public Works Department, from which he retired after 25 years of dedicated service.

An avid outdoorsman, Ronnie enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating. He was a life member of the Fayerweather Yacht Club and the Norden Club.

Above all else, Ronnie was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He cherished time spent with his family, and the memories they created together—along with his unconditional love—will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his beloved wife of 18 years, Marge, he is survived by his two loving children, Sheila Borino and Kiki Mastrony; his two adored grandchildren, Juliana and Elena; his sister, Judee Simms McMellon; his nephew, Jim McMellon; his nieces, Katie McMellon and Becca Fausel and her husband Kyler; his great-niece and great-nephew, Viviana and Jameson; as well as several cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and additional nieces and nephews. He also leaves to cherish his memory his devoted canine companions, Molly and Bailey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. directly at St. Ann's Church, 481 Brewster Street, Bridgeport. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
