Obituary of Steve Maklari

Steve (Istvan) Maklari, age 79, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Terry Bucci Maklari, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Born in Hungary on November 15, 1946, he was a long-time resident of Fairfield.

Having been born and educated in Hungary, Steve served in an elite military unit there. He immigrated to the United States in 1970 and established his electrical contracting business, Maklari Electric, in 1977. He was still working at the time of his death and took great pride in it, having wired a wide range of commercial projects across Fairfield County for nearly 50 years. Steve was known for his in-depth knowledge, attention to detail and passion for the trade. He also loved traveling the world and had an encyclopedic knowledge of history. Outside of work, Steve enjoyed going out for dinner with friends and family on Saturday evenings, spending summer weekends at home with his wife, kids and grandkids by the pool, and meeting dear friends for an after-work drink, or two.

In addition to his beloved wife of 51 years, Steve is survived by his three loving daughters Susan Maklari, Amy Maklari and her husband Mike Knudsen and Jackie Bires and her husband Todd, five cherished grandchildren Alexander, Caroline, Jenna, Ellyn and Maggie, two sisters Kathy Borko and Agnes Varga and her husband Joseph and is predeceased by a sister, Marika Lipcsak. He also leaves to cherish his memory several nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, and many friends and colleagues.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Rd., Fairfield. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 4 – 7 pm at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull, CT.
