Obituary of Marie Gerard Domingue
Marie Gerard Domingue "DADA" age 97, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was a longtime resident of Bridgeport.
Born in Jacmel, Haiti on January 4, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Ancene Etienne and Charlotte Charles.
Marie Gerard moved from Jacmel to Port-au-Prince with her family when she was 9 years old. She attended school at the (institution des soeurs de la sagesse). She later became a trained dress maker. She worked for a while in the textile industry until she got married at the age of 23 to Vaillant Domingue Sr., a Pentecostal Pastor. Though she stopped working outside of the home, she continued to work at home on her sewing machine while raising seven kids, nieces and nephews. She immigrated to the United States in 1984 from Haiti. She resided in Brooklyn, New York for two years before moving to Stamford Connecticut in 1986 then to Bridgeport in 2001.
Marie Gerard "DADA" was a God-fearing woman, and a woman with a strong faith in God and his words. When her husband died in 1980, she continued to be an anchor for her seven children. She was a mother, a friend, a counselor not only for her children but for any child that came within her sphere of influence. She was quiet, and reserved but will discreetly open up to welcome everyone. She was kind and lovely.
Survivors include her five loving children, Jean-Guy Domingue, Vaillant Domingue, Joel Domingue, Evelyne Huydic and Marie-Chantale Josue; son-in-law Richard Huydic, Josue Marcel; daughter-in-law Edwidge Domingue, Daphné Domingue and Edmée Domingue; her thirteen grandchildren, Kevin L. Josue, Vaillant Domingue III, Twain I. Domingue, Yohann J. Domingue, Yannis D. Domingue, Medalissa Kampman, Guerline Domingue, Abigail Sogbodjor, Rebecca Z. Domingue, Gemelle Domingue, Joelyne Domingue, Tabitha Domingue and Roselaure Gregoire ; a cherished great grandson Kayden Riodin; a beautiful great granddaughter Eliana-Rose Amakie Sogbodjor; nieces and nephews Lucien Jeudy, his wife and children; Edzer Charles, his wife and children; Fritzner Charles, his wife and children, Fabienne Domingue Tanis and her family, Ghislaine Bastien and her children; many other extended nieces, nephews and relatives, here in the U.S. and in Haiti.
She was predeceased in death by her parents Charlotte Charles and Ancene Etienne. Husband, Vaillant Domingue Sr., a son, Josue Domingue, a daughter, Naomie Domingue, her brother Lucian Charles.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. directly in Golden Hill United Methodist Church, 210 Elm Street., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Monroe. Friends and relatives may greet the family on Saturday morning at the church prior to the service from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. Arrangements are in care of the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
