Obituary of Idalina Barreira

Idalina (Pereira) Barreira, age 84, of Bridgeport passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2026 at St. Vincent's Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Adelino Barreira. Born in Portugal on February 6, 1941 she was a daughter of the late Miguel and Amelia (Martins) Pereira. Idalina had worked as a custodian in the Bridgeport City Hall for over 26 years and built many friendships along the way.

Her passion was cooking and feeding her large extended family at various holiday gatherings. She also enjoyed gardening and was meticulous in the care and upkeep of her gardens that always produced an abundance of fresh vegetables that she graciously shared with friends and family alike. Her greatest enjoyment however was found in the time she spent surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she adored.

She is survived by her loving children, Deolinda Batista (and her predeceased husband Rogario), Modesta Videira and her husband Armindo, Joaquim Barreira and his wife Paula, Paula Dickinson and her husband Glen, Abilio Barreira and his wife Adri and Elizabeth Soto and her husband Daniel, her sister, Fatima Vinhais, as well as 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. In addition to her beloved husband, Adelino, she was also predeceased by her son, Miguel Barreira and her brother, Antonio Pereira.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. Entombment will follow in the Pilgrimage Mausoleum at Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
