Obituary of William Joseph Kovac

William Joseph Kovac, of Shelton, beloved husband of Josephine Salce Kovac, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 11, 2025 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was the son of the late William Kovac and Ella Prall Kovac.

Bill used his gifted talents in various endeavors, most notably as general contractor and architect for Sherwood Homes, a luxury home builder he started in 1984.  After his retirement, his son took over the business and Bill continued working as an advisor and architect until his passing.

Bill was an avid fisherman from an early age and loved to spend time on the water with his family and friends. He also had a passion for creativity, mainly as a painter of landscapes and portraits.  In addition, he enjoyed Ballroom Dancing, wood working and helping with all sorts of projects for his children and grandchildren. Bill was a very patient and thoughtful man and always had time for anyone in need of his help.

But above all he was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and cherished friend.  He treasured time spent with his family. The values he instilled will forever live in the hearts of all that had the privilege of knowing him.  He will be deeply missed.

He was married to his beloved wife Jo for 68 years. Survivors also include his three loving children, William Kovac and his wife Joni, Elaine Cannon and her husband Kevin and Robert Kovac and his wife Monica, four cherished grandchildren, Nicholas Cannon, Ashley Kovac, Robert Kovac and Lucca Kovac, brother-in-law, Paul Salce and his wife Anita, as well as many nieces and nephews and their children. He was predeceased by two brothers, Henry and John Kovac and three sisters, Ruth Semanik, Mary Kovac and Linda Kovac.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. directly in St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday from 4 - 7 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
