Kate created a beautiful poem about 52 years ago.
Below is a link to hear her poem turned into lyrics, put to music, and turned into a song.
Kate is such a loving and optimistic person. Kindness and love spill out from every part of her. I love you Kate and will always cherish the time we spent together:))
With Love and Appreciation,
Brian Fitzburgh

It is with great sadness that I mourn the loss of my beloved sister Katherine. She was a warm, kind person who loved her family deeply. Katie loved being a teacher, especially helping children with reading. A creative spirit, she also enjoyed writing, drawing and painting. Kate was very proud of her five grandchildren and was always telling me of their accomplishments. My own children loved their Aunt Kate as she was always happy to see them.
I will miss our long phone chats where we discussed family, politics, books, and good memories.
Kate will live on in my heart - always loved and never forgotten.
Love, Mary

My deepest condolences go out to the family of Kate Shields.
I first met Kate a few years at Spring Meadows where my mom and dad have been residents.
Kate was friends with my mom and dad and we all had dinner together in the dining room and we became fast friends at that point. I introduced Kate to my younger brother Brian and he became very close to Kate. We both made time to visit with Kate each time we came from our homes in Los Angeles to visit our parents in Spring Meadows.
Kate was the sweetest of souls with such a wonderful outlook on life and art. She made a lasting impression on my family. Although we only knew Kate for a short while we feel blessed to have known her and I’m sure she has a special spot in heaven.
