Obituary of Jane M. Whiting Weinshank
Jane M. Whiting Weinshank, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on October 17, 2025, at the age of 95 at Ludlowe Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fairfield. Born on June 4, 1930, in Bridgeport, CT, Jane devoted her life to her family, her love of the arts, and her community, where she touched the hearts of many. Jane was predeceased by her parents, Stephen Kanuch and Jennie Galya, and her siblings, Vincent and Marcia Kanuch. A talented dancer and acrobat, Jane performed on numerous stages throughout Connecticut and New York in her younger years. She graduated from Central High School in 1948 and continued her education at the University of Bridgeport.
In September 1953, she married her beloved husband of 27 years, James Stiles Whiting, and together they built a loving home with their three children. Jane enjoyed a successful career as a paralegal with Magilnick, Simko, & Elstein in Bridgeport. While raising her family, she also found joy in playing bridge with friends and joining many community organizations. She was an active member of the Trumbull Floral Art Garden Club and the Trumbull Women's Club, where she held various leadership positions and chaired events, including fashion shows. As a devout Roman Catholic, she was an active member of St. Theresa's Parish for several decades. She participated in the Confraternity of the Rosary and volunteered with the Slovak Catholic Sokol and other local organizations. Jane remained committed to her community throughout her life while also exploring her passions for art and golf. She became the women's club champion at Tashua Knolls Golf Club in 1989, a testament to her dedication and enjoyment of the sport. A gifted artist, Jane painted many cherished works that now adorn the homes of her three children. After moving to Spring Meadows in Trumbull, she joined St. Stephen's Parish, where she continued to practice her beloved faith.
Jane is survived by her loving children, Marcella (Steven) Barbin of Trumbull, James Whiting of Fairfield, and Laura (Mark) Hurley of Trumbull, and her cherished grandchildren, Eric Barbin, Taylor Whiting, Tara Whiting, Jillian Hurley, and Meghan Hurley.
The family expresses their gratitude to the wonderful nurses and health aides at Ludlowe Health and Rehabilitation Center for their respectful, compassionate care and love over the past five years.
Jane gracefully danced her way through her long life while appreciating the beauty in God's creations. She was loved by many, and her impact will be felt for generations to come.
