Obituary of Winthrop W. Fry

Winthrop W. "Bill" Fry, age 74, of Oxford passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Margaret "Peggy" (Gallagher) Fry. Born in Bridgeport on May 14, 1951 he was a son of the late Richard R. and Julia (Lacey) Fry. Bill was a graduate of Notre Dame High School of Fairfield before attending and earning his Bachelor's Degree from Charter Oak College. Bill's career revolved around law enforcement having first served as a police officer and detective in the city of Hamden, where he dedicated 18 years of service, over a decade of fraud investigation in the private sector, and an additional 15 years of service as a Connecticut State Marshal. His greatest enjoyment was found in the time he spent surrounded by his loving family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. He enjoyed reading, fishing, boating, lake vacations, and attending his grandchildren's many events and activities. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend of many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his beloved wife Peggy of 53 years, other survivors include his devoted sons, Brian Fry and his wife Cheryl of Suffield, Christopher Fry and his wife Tien-Tien Chen of Simsbury and Richard Fry and his wife Cashmiere of Oxford, as well his nine adored grandchildren, Avery, Christian, Gabriel, Julia, Charlie, Bennett, Soliya, Coralie and Isla. Also his sister Pat Carroll in Buffalo, his sister Mary and her husband Tom Colombell in Virginia, and his sister-in-law, Maureen Fry. Bill had 22 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Richard Fry, his mother Julia Fry and his father Richard Fry.

Friends may greet the family on Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 275 Union Ave., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
