Obituary of Arnaldo Paiva

Arnaldo Paiva, age 92, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Maria Paiva, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 27, 1933 in Vidago, Trás-os-Montes, Portugal, he was a son of the late Jose and Albina Chaves Paiva. At the age of 18, Arnaldo moved to Brazil, where he would live for 40 years. It was in Brazil that he met the love of his life, Maria, where they married and had two sons. Together, they immigrated to the United States in 1980, settling in Bridgeport, CT. He later retired from St. Vincent's Medical Center after 20 years of dedicated service. Arnaldo was a long-time member of the Vasco da Gama Club, where he enjoyed spending time with his friends playing pool, a game of cards, or watching his favorite soccer team, Benfica. Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandson. The love he provided and the values he taught will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. In addition to his beloved wife of 65 years, Maria, survivors include his two loving sons, Carlos Paiva and his wife Helena and Mario Paiva and his wife Helena Paulo, four cherished grandchildren, Erica Doane and her husband Kyle, Gabriella Paiva, Daniella Paiva, and Carla Paiva, an adored great grandson, Sebastian, a brother, Luis Paiva and his wife Candida, a sister Rosa Salgado, as well as several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. directly in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 465 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. Interment will be private.
