Obituary of Adele C. Donohue
Adele (Curran) Donohue, age 78, of Trumbull, Connecticut passed on August 26, 2025. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Adele was the daughter of the late James and Ann Curran. Adele is survived by her husband of 56 years Brian Donohue and by her four daughters: Beth Coley and her husband Keith, Laura Ellwanger and her husband Chris, Anne Marie Donohue and Christine Booth and her husband Robert. Adele was a devoted grandmother to Alexander and Andrew Coley, Aidan and Jack Ellwanger, and Kate and Ryan Booth. She is survived by her brother James Curran. Adele is predeceased by her sister Anne Marie.
Adele was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, growing up on Kimball Street and enjoyed the Flatbush community as a teen. She attended Bishop Kearney High School and briefly worked for the phone company. She met her beloved husband Brian and they were married in April 1969. Adele dedicated herself to raising her family. She was very active, volunteering in the St. Edmund's community serving as the leader of The Rosary Society, leading Girl Scout troops and organizing the Christmas Fair. Adele was an artist taking various classes and had many pieces to showcase her talent including drawings with pen, pastels, watercolors and ceramics. She was part of a church sponsored bowling league for many years. Adele handmade her daughter's communion dresses and countless Halloween costumes. She loved the beach and took her family to Breezy Point or Rockaway beach all summer long. She was an excellent cook that liked to try new recipes she found in magazines. She loved Hallmark movies.
Adele went back to school attending the City University of New York to obtain her Associates Degree and became a Registered Nurse. She worked in various hospitals in New York, and served as the school nurse at Xaverian High School and her alma mater Bishop Kearney High School.
The Donohue Family relocated to Trumbull, Connecticut in 1991. Adele worked as a nurse at Southport Manor, Wilton Meadows and the Carolton. Many of these were supervisory and leadership roles. Adele was beloved by those she worked with as many spoke highly of her professionalism, excellent nursing skills and caring nature until her retirement in 2016.
Adele and Brian enjoyed a great circle of friends and traveled extensively. They enjoyed their time at the Gaelic Club. Adele was very involved with her grandchildren, caring for them as needed for her working daughters. She taught them fun songs from her youth like Under the Boardwalk, played endless games with them, and she chauffeured them to sports and activities.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Thursday, August 28th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will be private.
