Obituary of Benedito A. Medeiros

Benedito A. Medeiros, born on June 28, 1945, in Canedo, Portugal, to Maria Dias Teixeira and Jose Afonso De Medeiros, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 11, 2025.

Benedito was a devoted husband to Maria Medeiros, as well as a loving father and grandfather, known for his unwavering kindness and gentle spirit. He cherished his daughters, Lisette Alves, married to João Alves of Seymour, and Susana Moniz, married to Larry Moniz of Shelton, who brought him immense joy throughout his life. Benedito took great pride in his grandchildren: Jessica, Emely, and Mathew Alves, as well as Kevin and Ben Moniz, nurturing and caring for them with love and affection until the very end.

In 1975, Benedito came to America after serving in the Portuguese Army in Mozambique. He often shared his stories of his experiences with his grandchildren, enriching their lives with his rich history and adventures.

He is also survived by three brothers: Jose Medeiros and his wife Aldina, Antonio Medeiros and his wife Florinda, all of France and Domingos Medeiros and his wife Ceu of Shelton. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind friends, whom have become family.

Benedito found great enjoyment while taking walks and was a huge fan and supporter of the Benfica soccer team, which he loved to watch with his friends and family. However, it was his warmth and compassion that touched the lives of everyone he met, leaving a lasting impact on his family and friends. Benedito will be remembered for his selflessness, his dedication to family, and the love he shared with all.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
