Obituary of Simon Joseph

In Loving Memory of Simon Joseph

October 5, 1945 – August 3, 2025

Simon Joseph passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025, at the age of 79, in his home in Bridgeport, Connecticut, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 5th, 1945, in Jacmel, Haiti, he was the beloved son of Emmanuel Cayo and Idovia Joseph. Simon was one of eight children and is now reunited with three of his siblings who preceded him in death. He leaves behind four surviving siblings: Emmanuela Joseph, Laurana Joseph-Pierre, Deslouches Joseph, and Matel Cayo.

Simon was a devoted husband, a loving father, a loyal friend, and a man of deep compassion. He was hardworking and selfless, always putting the needs of others before his own. He loved to laugh, dance, and be surrounded by family. No matter what life brought, he did everything he could to protect and provide for those he loved.

Simon met the love of his life, Julianie, in the summer of 1973 in Haiti.

After moving to the United States in 1980, he worked as a custodian and later as a taxi driver—doing whatever it took to support his family. He took pride in his work and in the life he built. Whether it was fishing, fixing things around the house, enjoying mechanics, or spending Sundays blasting Haitian kompa and dancing with his daughters, Simon found joy in life's simple moments.

They've been together for 52 years and in that time, they raised a beautiful family of five children: Elcie and her husband Handy, Patrick and his wife Sandra, Natacha, Irlande and her husband Remus, and Francesca. Their love and generosity extended even further when they adopted and raised three sons-Jackson, Clement and his wife Joanne, and Jean Charles- as their own, along with his niece Jenny.

Simon was also a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Shanice, Cynthia, Tatiana, Brianna, Richard, Rihanna, Nicholas, Kenneth, Jasmine, and cherished great granddaughter Myaila.

Though loving, he was also a firm and disciplined parent, always pushing his children toward a better future. He wanted the best for them and worked tirelessly to make that a reality.

Our dad always had a saying "Le temps perdu ne se rattrape jamais" which means "lost time can never be regained" He would whisper that in our ears every chance he got.

Through the years, we've shared laughter, tears, lessons, and memories that will remain with us forever. Though his absence leaves a heavy space in our hearts, we find comfort in knowing that he is at peace and in a better place.

"The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." — Job 1:21

We love you, Dad. We will carry you in our hearts, always.

All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. directly in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 1255 East Main Street, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Avenue, Bridgeport.

Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday, August 11, 2025 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
