Obituary of John Richard Horvack Sr.
John R. Horvack, Sr., age 99, of Milford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Irene (Rousseau) Horvack. Born in Bridgeport on June 1, 1926 he was a son of the late John and Barbara Horovcak. John was a graduate of Bullard Havens High School before serving proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a machine gun specialist with the 5th Infantry Red Diamond division and received many medals- most significant, the World War II Victory Medal. John was in Czechoslovakia when the Germans surrendered on VE Day and was scheduled to fight in the Pacific, however V-J Day ended the war. John was then honorably discharged and began a long career as a machinist and toolmaker for Textron Lycoming, where for nearly 40 years he made precision parts for gas turbine engines used in tanks and helicopters.
John was a remarkably talented individual as a "Jack of all trades" and could fix nearly anything. He used his talents to make furniture in his basement workshop and many of his creations are still treasured to this day. John was a highly social person and an amazing dancer, filling up his free time going to various dance events to show off his sharp moves.
His beautiful yard and pool were an oasis for the entire family, surrounded by smiles and complete happiness. Fishing on the boat with John Jr. was a true highlight, especially if he had a beer in hand and his buddy, Red Gittings, on board. He was known for enjoying "a shot and a beer", which defined his easygoing way about how to live a long life. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend of many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his devoted son, John R. Horvack, Jr. and his wife Andrea of Milford, his cherished granddaughters, Sophia Rose and Addison Hope, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John is also survived by his best friend and companion, Helen Ucci, who brought him great joy and happiness over the last twenty years of his life.
He was predeceased by his brother, Michael Horvack and his sisters, Anne Stack, Irene Chmielewski, Mary Kozej and Mildred Vrooman.
