Obituary of Joan Virginia Altieri

Joan Sapitowicz Altieri, aka Andrea Todd, age 93, of Trumbull and formerly of Easton, beloved wife of the late Ralph T. Altieri, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Born in Milford on May 22, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Virginia (Jean) Sapitowicz, also of Milford, CT.

A graduate of the Mademoiselle School of Modeling in Bridgeport, she began what would be a successful 27-year modeling career on the runway and in photography, as well as being a designer model. She won the title of Miss Connecticut USA in 1954 while competing in the Miss Universe Contest. She was also one of 10 finalists in that contest. Joan was also named, Queen of the Danbury Fair for three straight years, 1954, 1955 and 1956, which was Connecticut's biggest fair at the time, pre the Big E.

After her retirement, Joan spent time at home with her family. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting and painting. She started a small business, Pondview Crafts where she crafted many ceramic pieces and paintings for all to enjoy.

But above all else, she was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She treasured her time with her family and they created memories to last a lifetime. Joan loved when her grandchildren and great grandchildren were by her side and her smile would light the room. The unconditional love she gave and the values she taught will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her loving daughter, Andrea Altieri Alexander and her husband Russ of Trumbull, two cherished grandchildren, Ian Alexander and his wife Carla and Alexa Jean Alexander, three adored great grandchildren, Merrick, Vale and Elsa, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 4 - 7 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan.
