During my high school and college years, I worked part time for Manager Sam at the old First National Supermarket on Barnum Avenue in Stratford. What a great guy he was, and I was so saddened to learn of his passing. Manager Sam and his young grocery clerks worked so well together, and we really enjoyed each other's company. Just last May 17th, I was chatting with Bill O'Brien of that same group, and Bill remarked that on occasion it was suggested: "How about a reunion of that First National gang from the 1960s?" Unfortunately, it is now too late, but we still have our memories of Sam from those happy days. As suggested in the obituary, I shall make a contribution in Sam's memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. My sincere condolences to Sam's family.

It was an honor to be Sam's daughter-in-law. He always treated me like his full daughter and I will miss him dearly. Rest in peace, Sam.... I love you.
