Obituary of Joan Dumont Ippolito
Joan Ann (Dumont) Ippolito, age 81, of Shelton and formerly of New York passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Joseph Amos Ippolito. Born in Lyon Mountain, New York on September 28, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Edna (Houle) Dumont. Mrs. Ippolito had been employed as an office manager at St. Agnes Church in Avon, New York for over 35 years and built many friendships along the way. She was a remarkably talented seamstress and was always willing to use her craft for helping others in need. Joan was an amazing cook and this fact was visibly reinforced in her husband’s weight gain from the time of their marriage. She loved to garden and was meticulous in the care and maintenance that went into tending to those gardens, which always produced an abundance of vegetables that she shared with friends and family alike. Joan had a deep love for horses, in particular her rescue horses Sunny and Rusty, who brought her such joy and a myriad dogs, cats, chickens, and other assorted pets and plants. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed crafting, however, her greatest enjoyment was found in the time she spent surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend of many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her beloved husband Joe of nearly 59 years, other survivors include her devoted children, Tonya Cremin and her husband David of Monroe and J. Steven Ippolito and his long-time companion Karen Cox of Rochester, NY, her adored grandchildren, Elizabeth and Thomas Cremin and her brother, Kenneth Dumont and his wife Rose of Penfield, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. directly in St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. At Joan’s request there will be no calling hours.
