Obituary of Jacqueline Mary Sabre
Jacqueline "Jackie" (Dowling) Sabre, age 88, of Shelton and formerly of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Joseph M. Sabre Sr., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Masonicare Bishop Wicke Health Center, Shelton, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Waterbury, on August 30, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John "Jack" and Rosalind (DeJoseph) Dowling. Jackie enjoyed a long career as a registered Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Technician working at St. Mary's Hospital, St. Vincent Medical Center, and Cardiac Associates of Bridgeport. She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Mark Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Parish Council, sang in the choir and was a Ladies Guild Member. Jackie loved music and theater and performed in several productions and cabarets while at St. Mark Parish, which were the "talk of the town". She also volunteered at numerous church and community events along with her husband Joe.
Jackie loved traveling, especially to Cape Cod and Aruba, her favorite vacation spots. She was especially grateful for several trips to Italy, England and Hawaii, where her husband had family. She was so well loved by her family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, medical professionals, church and in the community at large. Jackie was the "special Mom and Nonny" for many of her children's friends. She had a heart of gold, was always on the go, always there for everyone in need, and always went the extra mile for EVERYONE. Jackie was extremely proud of her Irish Heritage and Italian family. She was the life of the party and would love to organize gatherings, holidays, neighborhood/community picnics and events. But most of all, Jackie so loved her children, their spouses and her grandchildren dearly and supported them in every way every single day of her life. Jackie's grandchildren were the universe to her and had her constant support and admiration.
Survivors include her devoted children, Joseph M. Sabre Jr. and his wife Alice of Stratford, and Sherry Palumbo and her husband Al of Shelton, her beloved grandchildren, Jacquelyn(her namesake) and Nicholas Palumbo, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jackie leaves behind her best friend Roberta, who was her "sister", and her cousin Frank Manfredi. "Nonny" also adored her beloved pups: Autumn Bean and Mel. The family would like to thank the administration, nursing/therapy staff and several special direct care workers at Masonicare Bishop Wicke Health Center, who have been so attentive to Jackie and her family over the last several months.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. directly in St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may greet the family on Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
Memorial contributions may be made to Masonicare at Bishop Wicke Health Center, 584 Long Hill Ave., Shelton, CT 06484.
