Obituary of Gene A. Pekar
Gene A. Pekar, age 81, of Shelton CT, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2025 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bridgeport on January 16, 1944, he was the son of the late Stephen and Katherine Moskal Pekar. Gene was the owner and operator for over 40 years of United Lunch Canteen Truck Services. He truly loved his job and met many dear friends along the way.
With heavy hearts and grateful memories, we announce the passing of Gene Pekar, a man whose presence could light up any room, whose loyalty knew no limits, and whose love — laced with sarcasm and humor — left an indelible mark on everyone lucky enough to know him.
Family was at the core of everything he did, and he was especially devoted to his children, who he loved fiercely and proudly. He was a loyal and loving son to his parents, and a constant, caring presence in the life of his brother, Steve Pekar.
A true original, Gene had a deep passion for classic 1932 Fords, Meyers "Towd" Dune Buggies and triumph motorcycles – all motorcycles to be clear — machines that mirrored his bold spirit and timeless cool. But it wasn't just the open road that fed his soul; it was the bond he shared along the ride with his best friend, John Kozej – Like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid – They had the BEST adventures. Their adventures together were legendary — the kind of memories most people only dream of living.
What made him unforgettable was his intoxicating and genuine personality — a unique blend of warmth, wit, and sharp-edged sarcasm, all rooted in love. He didn't just enter a room; he owned it. He didn't just make friends; he created lifelong fans. His presence was a gift, and his absence will be deeply felt.
Though he's no longer with us, Gene lives on in the laughter he sparked, the stories he leaves behind, and the legacy of love and loyalty he built one relationship at a time.
He was one of a kind. And he always will be.
Survivors include his two loving children, a son, Joshua Pekar, a daughter, Amanda Smith and her husband Jeff, three cherished and adored grandchildren, Leah Smith and Colt and Quinn Callahan, his brother, Steve Pekar and his wife Joan and a nephew, Glenn Patrick.
