Obituary of Antonio Sousa Leandres
Antonio Sousa Leandres, age 86, of Shelton, beloved husband of Maria Rosa Tavares Leandres, passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 9, 2025 at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Antonio was born on December 12, 1938 in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, and was the son of the late Jose Pereira Leandres and Maria Braga Sousa.
Antonio was a proud Police Officer in Azores for seven years after completing his military service. He immigrated to the United States in 1968; living in Bridgeport for many years before settling in Shelton. He worked at Handy and Harmon for 33 years and was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church.
Antonio enjoyed a variety of hobbies, such as fishing, gardening, and winemaking. He cherished passing down the knowledge and traditions he learned from his family, ensuring that his legacy, values, and heritage would be appreciated by future generations. For Antonio, family was the cornerstone of his life.
A hard-working man, he always ensured his family was taken care of, often putting their needs above his own. As a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, the unconditional love he shared and the values he instilled will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 57 years, Maria Rosa (Taveres) Leandres, his loving son Michael Leandres and wife Lucilia, two cherished grandchildren David and Lia Leandres; sisters Maria Figueiredo (Jose) of Hudson MA, and Angilina Baptista (Jose) of Taunton MA, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins
