Obituary of Judith Calandrelli

Our beautiful Mother, Judith Ann (Lippolis) Calandrelli, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025. Judy was born on May 21, 1926 to the late John and Mamie (Simone) Lippolis in Norwalk, CT where she lived for most of her life. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, John Vito Calandrelli. Theirs was a true love story. She is also predeceased by her son-in-law, Anthony M. Baldino, Jr. and her siblings, Marie (Dolly) Drew, Frank (Sonny) Lippolis and Pauline Richmond.

Judy attended Norwalk schools and at the age of 18, during World War II, she joined the Civil Air Patrol out of Danbury Airport where she flew a Piper Cub for 2 years patrolling the CT coastline. In 2018, she received the Congressional Medal of Honor in Washington, DC as well as the Medal of Honor from the State of CT in 2019.

For 25 years, Judy worked at the front desk at the Westport Library where she made many lifelong friends, and enjoyed talking to all the Library patrons including Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Her work at the Library led her to a lifetime love of books, which she passed along to her children.

Summers spent at Ascension Beach Club in Norwalk with her children, family and friends were definitely a highlight in her life. As faith was very important to her, she attended and volunteered for many years at Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish in Norwalk and Saint Andrew Parish in Bridgeport.

Judy will be remembered for her infinite kindness, unconditional love and faith as well as being a UCONN Huskies fan (and her occasional glass of White Zinfandel). She will be loved and missed forever.

She is survived by her loving children, Janis Baldino, Jill (John) Monroe, John D. Calandrelli and Joan (Sal) Trombetta. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Laura Tucci, Matthew Tucci, Diana Tucci, Allison (Martin) Maffei, Michael (Kristen) Trombetta, Julie (Anthony) Dalaly and Emily Monroe. She is also survived by her precious great-grandchildren, Chase and Miles Maffei, Madison Trombetta and Gianna Dalaly. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, whom she dearly loved.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM directly at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave., Norwalk. A period of visitation will take place at St. Thomas Church prior to Mass from 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Charlotte's Web of Prayer, 771 Allen Avenue, Cheshire, CT 06410 would be greatly appreciated.
