Obituary of Steve Anthony Cioppa

Steve Anthony "Sonny" Cioppa, age 92, of Milford and formerly of Bridgeport, beloved husband of the late Rosemarie G. "Ro" DeFelice Cioppa, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 28, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bridgeport on August 3, 1932, he was the son of the late Anthony and Amelia Scioscia Cioppa.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Steve was a retired special police officer for the City of Bridgeport with over 20 years of dedicated service before his retirement. A big fan of classic films, he enjoyed countless hours watching some of his favorites; the black and white films of Bogart and Cagney, all the greats from the Mob Genre, and the ridiculousness of the Steven Seagal action films. He enjoyed listening to the Rat Pack, Jimmy Roselli, and the WICC Italian House Party every Sunday. The Saturday routine consisted of picking up tripe or porchetta sandwiches, and Sundays would not be complete without a weekly visit to a flea market, where his art of haggling scored his family and friends various tchotchkes, trinkets, and colognes. Above all, he was an extremely generous man who would give you the shirt off his back and would do anything for his family and friends.

He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. The unconditional love he gave and the values he taught will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He always taught them, through example, how to treat people right. Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his two adored children, Stephen Cioppa, Jr. of Ansonia, and Gina Cimbak and her husband Jerome of Milford; his cherished grandchildren, Brian Cimbak and his wife Rachel of Shelton, Cara Kardian and her husband John of Thornwood, NY, and James and Matthew Cioppa of Milford; his beloved great grandchildren, Amelia, Adeline and Stephen; his daughter-in-law, Darlene Cioppa of Milford, his sister Marie Lenzen and her companion Rob D'Ottavio of Darien; his brother-in-law Joseph DeFelice and his wife Jane of Monroe; and his loving niece and nephews, Christopher Lenzen and his wife Veronica of Trumbull, and Joseph Lenzen Jr. and his wife Joanne of Southbury; William "Billy" Scovin and his wife Connie of IA, and Sharon Fedak and her husband Frank of Monroe, as well as several great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Connie Balter and brother-in-law Joseph Lenzen Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. directly in St. Ann Church, 501 Naugatuck Ave, Milford. Interment with military honors will follow in King's Highway Cemetery, Milford. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.

In lieu of flowers those desiring may make memorial contributions may be made to Tunnel To Towers Foundation, 2361 Hyman Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306 or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
