Obituary of Mariette P. Roy

Mariette Roy, age 85, of Trumbull, CT passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.  She was born in Saint-Theodore-d’Acton, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of the late Leopold and Therese Dumaine Picard.  Mariette was the widow of Jacques A. Roy, to whom she was married for 41 years.  She came to the United States as a new bride in 1962 settling in Stamford, CT.  Her first employment was in the credit department of WT Grant, and later she worked at the State National Bank in the Trust Department.  She retired to start a family.  Mariette loved being a stay-at-home mom.  She spent the summers at the beach with her sons, and the winters sledding at Cummings Park.  After her children were grown, Mariette went to work at Wahlstrom and Company in the accounting department.  She left in 2003 to care for her terminally ill husband.  Mariette enjoyed traveling, taking countless trips across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand.  She loved the outdoors, playing in the dirt and spent a great deal of time tending to her garden.  She believed in the old adage, “We start as dust, we return to dust, and in between we garden.”  Mariette was very proud of her French-Canadien heritage.  Every Christmas Eve was a celebration at her home as everyone savored her tourtierre.  A Trumbull resident since 2009, she took great pleasure in her grandchildren’s activities as their number one fan. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Mariette was pre-deceased by her infant son David and two brothers Gilles and Roger Picard of Canada.  Survivors include her devoted sons, Jacques M. Roy and his wife Dawn of Trumbull and Claude N. Roy and his wife Lori of Woodbridge, four grandchildren:  Colin, Tyler, Jacques D. and Luca, her two sisters Murielle Demaline and Sylvie Kanho and a brother Jean-Luc Picard, all of Canada.  Mariette also had a special friend, Edward Donato of Trumbull. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.  directly in Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Ave., Trumbull. Entombment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Friends may greet the family on Friday, April 4, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
