Obituary of Jerome J. Smith
In Loving Memory of Jerome J. Smith "Buddy" or "Bud"
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jerome J. Smith, fondly known as "Buddy" or "Bud," who left us peacefully on December 17, 2024, at the age of 75. While most lives can't be fully captured in words, Buddy's was defined not just by what he did, but by the warmth, love, and joy he brought to everyone around him.
Buddy had many passions in life. He loved antiques, cherished his cars, and could often be found tinkering with his motorcycle or firearms. He took great pride in his summer tomato plants, which thrived under his care—just like the relationships he nurtured over the years. He loved all holidays, especially those spent with loved ones, where laughter and good times were always in abundance.
Buddy also fought battles that many face. He struggled with addiction and alcoholism, enduring dark days that tested his will and spirit. But through these trials, he discovered his true purpose. With strength and determination, he found help, embraced sobriety, and turned his life into a testament of resilience and redemption. His sobriety was not just a personal victory but the beginning of a new chapter one in which he dedicated himself to helping others. As a sponsor to many, he became a guiding light, reminding those struggling that they were never alone and that a new path was always possible.
Above all, the greatest love of Buddy's life was his family and friends. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering support made him a rock to those who knew him. Whether he was sharing a story, lending a helping hand, or simply enjoying a quiet moment, Buddy had a unique way of making those around him feel special and valued. It wasn't about what he did, it was how he made people feel that truly defined him.
Buddy is survived by his longtime friend and companion, Jeanette Depew; his three loving daughters, Kerry Sally, Melysa Smith, and Rebbeca Dibble; and his cherished grandchildren, Mya McGarty, Kristi Fadden, and Mark Fadden, who brought him immense joy.
He shared a special bond with his niece, Kathleen Hurst and her husband Eddie Hurst, Kathleen is the daughter of his late sister Eva Smith. He also treasured the many friends who became like family to him, filling his life with love and companionship.
Buddy is also survived by his brother, John Smith. Though their relationship had its complexities, they remained connected through the enduring ties of family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Smith, and his sister, Eva Smith. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the love, laughter, and connections he nurtured throughout his life.
