Obituary of Josephine C. Melillo
It is with great sadness the family of Josephine (Cundare) Melillo, age 93, of Bridgeport, announces her peaceful passing at Spring Meadows on March 8, 2025 after a long, happy life with her loving family. Josephine was born in Bridgeport on June 28, 1931, and she was the wife of the late Dorvallo (Don) Melillo and the daughter of the late Salvatore and Angelina (Millemaci) Cundare. She grew up in a household that owned the Italian-American Restaurant on East Main Street and helped prepare homemade Italian food with her mother in the kitchen.
Later in life, Josephine worked for multiple banks. Josephine grew up with her late sister, Anne (Cundare) Nealy and late brother, Benjamin Cundare. Josephine was a true, die-hard NY Yankees fan and loved fashion and WICC's Sunday Italian Show which she listened to every Sunday while preparing and cooking the Sunday family dinner. Josephine's favorite musical artists were Sergio Franchi, Connie Francis, Jimmy Roselli and Jerry Vale. Her passion was her grandkids and great grandchildren, and she loved the holidays. Her friends and family will miss her delicious stuffed artichokes, chicken cutlets parmigiana, and pizzelles.
Survivors include her two loving daughters and their husbands, Cathy and Glen Arrighetta of Miller Place, NY, and Laura and Louis Lorenzo, Jr. of Stratford, four grandchildren, Alyse (and John) Aven; Amanda (and Peter) Novajosky; Alana (and Robert) Santo; and John Arrighetta as well as 7 great grandchildren.
All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 14th at 10:30 am directly in St. Andrew's Church, 435 Anton St., Bridgeport. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday, March 13th from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Josephine to Vitas Healthcare, 488 Main Avenue, Suite 3 Norwalk, CT 06851. To leave on online condolence, please visit www.abriola.com.
