
Obituary of Jeanette M. Mortati
Jeanette M. (Santaniello) Mortati, age 95 of Shelton and formerly of Southbury passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Ludlowe Center for Health and Rehabilitation, Fairfield. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph P. Mortati. Born in The Bronx, NY on March 19, 1929. Jen was a daughter of the late Agostino and Antoinette (Pirraglia) Santaniello. She was a personal shopper at Lord and Taylor for over 20 years and built many friendships along the way. She was actively involved with the community at Heritage Village while living in Southbury and will be missed greatly. Jen was a woman of great faith and shared that faith proudly as a member of the church choir and as a eucharistic minister for over 20 years at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed knitting and amazed others with her ability to tap dance well into her 80’s. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend of many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jen is survived by her loving children, Joseph Mortati and his wife Denise of Trumbull, Stephen Mortati of Danbury and her daughter Annette Serniak and her husband Jay of Stamford, CT. She will be missed by her seven cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth Mortati and her husband Andy McEvoy, Sarah Mortati and her husband James Overton, Andrew Mortati and his wife Kasey, Victoria Mortati, Allyson Mitry and her husband Will, Kathryn Mortati and Caroline Serniak, as well as her adored great grandchildren, Carlo, Aurora and Eleanor.
Jen leaves her brother, Anthony Santaniello and his wife Gloria of Islip, NY, and her sister Rose Marie Worhacz and her husband Bob of Hauppauge, NY. In addition to her husband Joe, Jen was predeceased by her brother Louis Santaniello and his wife Grace.
A memorial service and celebration of Jeanette’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Danbury Hospice.
