Obituary of Josh J. Cappello

Josh Joseph Cappello age 24 of Trumbull passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on February 27, 2025. Josh was at his home and surrounded by his loving family.

Josh was born on December 6, 2000 at Griffin Hospital in Derby CT. He attended Trumbull Public Schools for all of his primary and secondary education. First, going to Tashua Elementary, then Madison Middle School and finally graduating from Trumbull High School in 2019. Next, he attended a year at Ithaca College followed by many years at Southern Ct State University, where he pursued a degree in history with a minor in religious studies.

Josh was an avid basketball and baseball player in his youth, playing on various competitive teams in both sports. He went on to play three years of basketball at Trumbull High school as well as running track and cross country. He was also extremely gifted with his hands. He not only put together all the family's furniture, he excelled at making figures out of legos, Star Wars being his favorite!! Furthermore, Josh was a big advocate for Brain Tumor research, even making trips to Washington, DC to speak in front of Congressmen at the annual "Head to the Hill" event in May. Finally, while at Southern Josh developed a deep love and passion for Middle Eastern History, reading the works of the poet Rumi and the author A. Helwa among others. He also zealously studied the Arabic language.

Josh is survived by his mother Rachel, father John, brothers Jake and Jared, and his beloved standard poodle "Bruce Wayne". Also, both his paternal and maternal grandfathers, John Cappello and Mike Pacella, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Josh is predeceased by both his paternal and maternal grandmothers, Sandy Cappello and Kitty Pacella.

Josh will always be remembered for his thirst for knowledge, love of animals, incredible smile, dedication to his family, and his unwavering commitment to furthering brain tumor research.
