Obituary of Marie Schmedlin

Marie Schmedlin, age 87, of Fairfield, formerly of Bridgeport & Shelton, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025. Marie was the beloved wife of the late Edwin Schmedlin with whom she was happily married for 63 years.

Born in Bridgeport in May 1937, Marie was the daughter of the late Arthur & Phyllis Mencarelli. After graduating from the University of Bridgeport, she worked as a dental hygienist in the Bridgeport school system for over 40 years where she made numerous friends with fellow hygienists, nurses and teachers, many of whom she remained close with until her last days.

Marie enjoyed traveling, cooking (Italian food focus) and entertaining especially around the holidays. Her house was always open to friends and family in the neighborhood.

Survivors include a son Steven (Karen) Schmedlin of Fairfield; a daughter Nancy (Lou) Benedetto of Monroe; grandsons Louis (Jessica) Benedetto, Mathew (Kristen) Benedetto and Daniel Schmedlin; great grandchildren Hudson & Roman Benedetto; and several cousins & other family.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Monday, March 3, 2025 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 noon. Burial will be private.

The family would like to also express their gratitude to the nurses & caregivers at Sturges Ridge of Fairfield and the hospice team at Constellation Health Services for their devoted attention to Marie's care.
