Obituary of Rose D. Kalapos

Rose (DeSimone) Kalapos, age 99, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late George J. Kalapos, Sr. Born in Bridgeport on January 3, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Vincenza (Alaimo) DeSimone.

As a young woman, Rose began her working career in the retail industry at a hat and dress shop. During World War II, she worked at Chance Vought in the accounting department. She later worked a similar capacity in accounting at the University of Bridgeport, followed by employment at General Electric Company. She was a woman of great faith and was a longtime parishioner of St. Theresa Church, where she was also a member of their ladies' guild. Rose loved to cook, and her affection for others was expressed through the meals she made and shared with them. Rose was a worldwide traveler and was fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit such places as Asia, Europe, and Alaska. She had a keen sense of humor that was appreciated by everyone, and her natural wit made her an especially social person with many friends.

Her greatest enjoyment, however, was found in the time she spent surrounded by her loving family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt. and friend to many, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Rose is survived by her loving children, George Kalapos Jr. and his wife Felicia of Stratford, Richard Kalapos; and Mary Ann Kovacic and her husband Ivan of Fairfield; her cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Parker and her husband Jason, Jessica Saint Carroll and her husband Brian, Jaclyn Kalapos-Rios and her husband James, Jeffrey Z. Kalapos and his wife Kelsey, Scott Kalapos and his wife Amanda, Kristine Kalapos, Sara Rossley and her husband John, and Lindsay Schaffer and her husband William; her adored great-grandchildren, William, Jayden, Sydney, Jake, Jack, Jenna, Joshua, Vince, Juliana, Declan, Patrick, Kate, Sophia and Liam; her sister, Angela Marsillio; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband George, she was also predeceased by her brother, Salvatore DeSimone.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the entire Spring Meadow staff for the care and compassion they extended to Rose while she was in residence, as well as to her private aide, Kadian, who lovingly cared for Rose during her last few months. They had all become like family and their friendship is greatly treasured and appreciated.

Friends may greet the family on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
