Cornell Racz

Obituary of Cornell J. Racz

Cornell J. Racz, age 70 of Trumbull, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the longtime loving and devoted partner to Janice Regine for over 20 years.

Born on October 27, 1954 in Bridgeport, Cornell was the son of the late Cornell A. Racz and Joan (Hultgren) Racz. He was deeply loved by Edmund Szenci, his mother’s life partner, whose guidance and support meant the world to him, like a father figure throughout his life.

Cornell was a dedicated firefighter who proudly served on the Long Hill Fire Department in Trumbull, where he earned the distinction of being a lifetime member. Over the years, he forged many lasting friendships within the department. Additionally, Cornell worked as a self-employed insurance broker, a career he pursued for many years.

Cornell had a lifelong love for music and performance, which led him to become a proud member of the Trumbull Bengal Lancers, and the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum Corps. His time with the corps. was filled with camaraderie, passion, and unforgettable performances that brought him great joy. His love for music was passed down to his daughter, Jenna, who followed in his footsteps by playing his cherished trumpet in marching band for eight years, carrying on his musical legacy.

A lover of television and film, Cornell had an eclectic taste, particularly enjoying Monty Python, Star Trek, sci-fi, history, and classic films. He was known for quoting his favorite lines whenever the opportunity arose. Another of his passions was building and collecting model trains. He even ran his own repair business, CJ Train Repair, for a time. Cornell also enjoyed spending time in his yard, where he took great pride in maintaining his lawn and vegetable gardens with meticulous care.

Halloween was Cornell’s favorite time of year, and he never missed an opportunity to transform his home into a spooky masterpiece, complete with fog machines, eerie music, and a full cemetery. This annual tradition was one that he shared with Janice, and they would celebrate together with friends and family, creating lasting memories. Cornell will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In addition to his loving life partner Janice, Cornell is survived by his daughter, Jenna Wellington, and her husband Sean of Seymour, as well as numerous beloved pets who will greatly miss his companionship.
