Obituary of Antonio Lavaredas

Antonio Lavaredas, age 73, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2025 at St. Vincent's Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Ilda (Ribas) Lavaredas. Born in Pedrario, Portugal on March 12, 1951, he was a son of the late Joao and Herminia (Moutinho) Lavaredas and was a longtime resident of Bridgeport.

Antonio and Ilda married on January 24, 1976 and later emigrated to the United States on May 1, 1976 to start a family. He worked in construction for many years before his retirement. He played soccer and loved to watch his favorite team Benfica at home or at the Vasco Da Gama Portuguese Club, where he was a lifetime member. He enjoyed fishing and could often be found in the yard caring for his rabbits, chickens and crafting his Portuguese sausage, and making wine, always eager to share the fruits of his labor with family and friends. His generosity, warm spirit, and love for tradition left an unforgettable mark on all who knew him.

Above everything his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his beloved wife Ilda of 49 years, survivors include his two loving children, John Lavaredas and his wife Marina and Sonia Lavaredas and her fiancé Angel Melendez, four cherished grandchildren, Jeremi Rosado, Saraya Rosado, John Paul Lavaredas and Sofia Lavaredas a brother, Joaquim Lavaredas and a sister, Albertina Santos, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. directly in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. Entombment will follow in The Pilgrimage Mausoleum at Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
