Obituary of Clare E. Fitzgerald SSND

Clare Fitzgerald was born in Cambridge, MA, on September 15, 1924; she celebrated 100 years at The Watermark, Bridgeport, CT, on that date in 2024 with relatives, many colleagues and friends, and her loving SSND Community. She died there on January 27, 2025.

Sister Clare was a well-known speaker on Catholic education and the future of religious life. At Boston College she founded The Catholic School Leadership Program in 1981. The Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) elected her to its Presidency in 1978, while she was also serving as Provincial Leader for the SSND Province.

On Sunday, February 9, viewing will take place from 2 to 4 pm, at St. Andrew Church, 395 Anton Street, Bridgeport, CT.

Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12 noon on Monday, February 10, will be preceded by Viewing at 10:30 am and Wake Service at 11:30 am.

Memorial contributions may be sent to SSND Development Office, 345 Belden Hill Road, Wilton, CT 06897.
