Obituary of Steven W. Simeonidis, Sr.

Steven William Simeonidis, Sr., age 65, of Shelton, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on May 10th.  To carry on in his absence, he leaves behind his soul-mate JoAnne Varga Simeonidis, his children Steven William Simeonidis, Jr., Sara Simeonidis and David Ribnicky, and Jennifer Simeonidis and Bryan Galik, granddaughters Emma and Abigail, and newborn grandsons Bryan and Benjamin—whom he was blessed to meet before his unexpected passing and had affectionately nicknamed Bruiser and Badass.  Steve was also fortunate to have in his life his stepchildren Wendy Varga, Sharon and Michael Bean, and Susan and Patrick Williams, and grandchildren Emily, Matthew, Amanda and Lauren.

Born on the wrong side of the Jersey Turnpike in Fort Lee, New Jersey to immigrant parents from Greece and Germany, the late Stephen and Pauline Simeonidis, Steve earned his way making deliveries—while dodging dogs—for his parents’ store Union on the Square in Jersey City, New Jersey.  He eventually made his way to Connecticut and a career in engineering, which included proudly serving as the Director of Engineering at St. Vincent’s Hospital for nearly two decades.

Steve approached life with a passion found in few others.  He loved to tell a good story and was no stranger to tipping back a few.  Chief among his favorite pastimes were traveling with his wife JoAnne, yelling at the Giants on TV, and belting out “Georgia” just slightly off-key.  Most of all, he took such joy in spending time with his family and told anyone who would listen that his children were his proudest achievements.

Friends and relatives may visit with Steve’s family on Friday, May 12, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.  A service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Abriola Parkview Funeral Home.  To honor his memory, donations may be made in Steve’s name to The American Cancer Society, 38 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06854 or at www.cancer.org.
