Obituary of Edward J. Bernas

Edward J. Bernas, age 88, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, died Friday, April 23, 2005 at his residence. Born in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, he was a resident of Trumbull for many years before moving to Port St. Lucie in 1983. A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served with the Sea Bees in Europe. Mr. Bernas was a retired maintenance supervisor for the Trumbull Board of Education and worked as a brick mason. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie and was a member of the Catholic War Veterans and Knights of Columbus.

He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Sonya Bernas, beloved grandson, Sean Michael, two sisters and a brother.

Survivors include his wife, Ligia Bernas of Port St. Lucie, a son, Dennis E. Bernas and his wife, Debbie of California, a daughter, Bonnie Lindsay of Trumbull and her devoted partner, Robert Gruely, five grandchildren, Tamara Feola of Thomaston, Dana Garrity and his wife, Meegan of Waterbury, Shawn Bernas and his wife, Erica, Martin Bernas and his wife, Rebecca and Edward George Bernas and his wife, Debbie, all of Florida, eight great grandchildren, two sisters, Betty and Joan and two brothers, Bobby and Joe.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment will be private at the St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
