Obituary of James D. Sota

James D. Sota, age 91, of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Millicent Jean Noel Sota, died peacefully on Thursday, April 19, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Born in Newark, New Jersey on January 17, 1927, to the late Pandley and Doxie Cocca Sota he was a Lordship resident for over 60 years. A U.S. Army veteran, James was a retired shipping clerk with Sturm Ruger.

Affectionally known as 'Papu" to everyone, he enjoyed bus trips to the casino and spending time with his friends at the seawall in Lordship. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren with whom he enjoyed spending much of his time at school and sports activities.

Survivors include, two loving children, James R. Sota and his wife Mary of Stratford and Linda Meraviglia and her husband Brian of Stratford, his four cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Gerbino and her husband Joseph, James J. Sota and his wife Jill, Nicole Noel Meraviglia and Melissa Jean Meraviglia and her fiancé William Collins, four great grandchildren, Isabella Maria and Gabriella Sofia Gerbino, and Janelle Ann and James Philip Sota, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother Alex Sota.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Lord Chamberlain Nursing Home and the 7th floor staff at St. Vincent's Medical Center for the professional and compassionate care given to Papu in his time of need.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. in St Dimitrie Romanian Orthodox Church, 504 Sport Hill Rd., Easton with Rev. Father George M. Coca presiding. Interment with military honors will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. A Trisagion service will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
