Obituary of Reverend Grazioso Artuso

Reverend Grazioso Artuso, age 81, a retired priest of the Diocese of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2018 in Stamford. Born on August 18, 1936 in San Zenone, Treviso, Italy, he was a son of the late Attilio and Melania Perizzolo Artuso.

He studied in Udine-Padova and Casamari-Frosinone, Italy and was ordained to the priesthood by the Most Reverend Vittorio Ottaviani on December 19, 1964 at the Basilica of Casamari Abbey in Frosinone, Italy. In 1976, he obtained permission to transfer to the United States, following the suppression of the Diocese of Nocera-Umbra. He served in the Diocese of Rockville Centre from 1984 to 1988. He was incardinated into the Diocese of Bridgeport on October 1, 1991.  He served as Parochial Vicar at St. Raphael Church in Bridgeport from July 1, 1988 until his retirement on August 30, 2011.

Survivors include his brother, Father Ambrogio Artuso, O.F.M. CAP. of Italy and many other family members in Italy, as well as the many dear friends and parishioners of St. Margaret’s Shrine Parish.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Shrine, 2523 Park Ave, Bridgeport. The Rev. Msgr. Thomas W. Powers, Vicar General of the Diocese of Bridgeport will be the principal celebrant, and Father Alfonso Picone will be the homolist. Interment will follow in the Priest’s Circle at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Stratford. A period of visitation will take place on Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. directly in St. Margaret’s Shrine. Arrangements entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, Trumbull.
