Obituary of Dorothy C. Moore

Dorothy Moore (Dottie) passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 8, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born Dorothy A. Cervi on July 22, 1925 in Port Washington, NY to Justin and Mary (Muro) Cervi. She graduated from Port Washington High School in 1943. Dottie married her beloved husband Alvey Moore in 1954 and they eventually settled in Monroe, CT, where they have lived for the past 52 years. Dottie worked for the Monroe Board of Education for 20 years and retired from service in 1992. She loved and enjoyed her family and in recent years worked determinedly to trace and discover both her Italian family history as well as her husband's ancestry. Dottie lived a life sewing friendships and was blessed with many kind, loyal friends--too many to name and some who have passed as well--but none whom she ever forgot or to whom she was not thankful for their gift of friendship. She was an avid sports fan, following each season of college basketball, Major League Baseball, college football (Go Sooners), and NFL football. But her most enjoyed sports fan experience came in 2004 when her Boston Red Sox finally won the World Series after 86 years, knocking off her not so well liked New York Yankees in the process. For most of her life, if she was watching a sporting event she surely was crocheting or knitting and if the television was off, there was a good chance she was reading a book. Dottie is survived by her husband of 64 years, Alvey, two children, Tim Moore, Austin, TX, and David Moore (Patricia), Shelton, CT. She will be greatly missed by her four cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Zachary, Emily and Mackenzie. She was predeceased by her mother and father, brother, Justin Cervi and his wife Marie (Herman) Cervi, many aunts and uncles, cousins and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the St Vincent's Medical Center caregivers, especially all those associated with the Sixth Floor, and the hospice providers from Vitas Healthcare who gave our mother such compassionate and loving care in her final days. Friends are invited to greet the family on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Jude Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
