Obituary of Eileen M. McCann

Eileen M. Sheehan McCann, age 60, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at St. Vincent's Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the best friend and beloved wife of Peter J. McCann. Born in Bridgeport on June 6, 1957, she was a daughter of the late Robert D. and Margaret Kennedy Sheehan. Eileen received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Vermont in 1979 and began her nursing career at Park City Hospital. She soon became a Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse (WOCN), allowing her own personal experiences to guide her and provide a unique ability to help countless others struggling through their own battles. This led her to Stamford Hospital where she spent 15 years as a tremendous asset, educating both patients and staff. Through these years Eileen also spent great time answering a hotline set up by Byram Healthcare where she was able to ease the burden of this disease for many patients and caregivers. Nine years ago, she welcomed a career change with ConvaTec where she again was able to further use her expertise and develop a new position as a clinical resource specialist. Her passion for the nursing specialty led to a Nightingale Award for Nursing Excellence and becoming a published author. She loved the magic of Disney, the serenity of the beach, the adventure of scuba diving, and the comfort of a good mani/pedi, but her greatest enjoyment was found spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was our number one cheerleader and coach in all of our endeavors, both big and small. She was a devoted member of the Greater Bridgeport Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and the New England Region of the WOCN Society. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she will be always missed and forever remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her beloved husband of 38 years, Peter; her three loving children, Michael T. McCann of Hamden, Brendan P. McCann and his wife Kellianne of Port Jefferson Station, NY and Coleen M. McLaughlin and her husband Owen of Trumbull; her five cherished grandchildren, Camryn E. McCann, Casey F. McCann, Logan A. McLaughlin, Drew P. McLaughlin, and Charlie J. McLaughlin; her twin sister Maureen Hoock, husband Mike, of Shrewbury, MO, her brother Terrence Sheehan, wife Patty, of Trumbull, and her sister Susan Bassett of Barefoot Bay, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother-in-law, Jimmy Bassett. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Long Hill Burial Grounds, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. A send off filled with flowers was Eileen's wish, though Memorial contributions may also be made to FORCE, Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered, an organization dedicated to assisting those facing genetically linked cancers, at facingourrisk.org.
