Obituary of Helen P. Szamotula

On Sunday, October 8, 2017 God took Helen Pritz Szamotula of Sandy Hook to heaven after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Helen died peacefully at CT Hospice of Branford surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter S. Szamotula. Born on February 15, 1930 in Bridgeport, CT to the late John and Paulina Kloczko Pritz and was raised in the south end of Bridgeport on an estate at Seaside Park. Helen graduated from Bassick High School and Butler Business School. She was employed at General Electric in Bridgeport and Fairfield headquarters for over 35 years, retiring as a secretary and administrative assistant. Helen enjoyed traveling in the USA and Europe, taking cruises. She loved shopping, gardening, sewing, baking, crossword puzzles, bingo and especially spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her three loving daughters, Diane Medoff and her husband Kenneth of Trumbull, Christine Blomberg and her husband Donald of Shelton and Pamela Midlik and her husband Stephen of Sandy Hook, a brother Edmund Pritz and his wife Suzanne of FL, grandchildren, Shannon Blomberg, Erica Hall and her husband Jonathan, Kristen Medoff, Danielle Medoff, Katie Midlik, Christina "Nina" Midlik and great grandchildren, Ava, Andrew, Grayson, Colten, Ella and Eli. She was predeceased by two cherished grandsons, Stephen W. Midlik and James D. Blomberg (Sangita Malholtra Blomberg) as well as three brothers, Edward, Sigmond and John Pritz.

Friends are invited to meet directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Rd., Fairfield on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
