Obituary of Ruth D. Mancini

Ruth Mancini (née Diani), 87, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2017, with her family by her side. She was married to the love of her life, Joseph Henry Mancini, for 65 years. She was the daughter of the late Fioravante and Edvige Diani (née Scaramuzza) and the mother of the late Carol Hampton. She was predeceased by her sister, Eunice. A graduate of Bristol High School, Ruth went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in education (with a minor in romance languages) from the University of Connecticut at a time when few women attended college. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished spending time with her family and demonstrated her love by preparing delicious Italian meals for family gatherings. She was an excellent cook and frequently tried her hand at new recipes and cuisines. A loyal fan of the UConn women's basketball team and the New York Yankees, Ruth rarely—if ever—missed a game. Ruth had a keen mind and was an avid reader. She frequently read snippets of interesting articles aloud to her husband, Joe, and delighted in choosing new books as presents for her grandchildren. Ruth is survived by her husband; children, Susan (Michael), Joanne, Joseph Jr. (Kimberly), Mark (Debbie), and Michael (Donna); her son-in-law Edward Hampton; and her beloved grandchildren, Erin, Matthew (Briana), Jennifer, Nicole, Michael Jr., Christopher, Daniel, and Joseph III. Her family and friends will always remember her kindness, her generous spirit, and her luscious apple pie. She will be sorely missed. The family will receive friends at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home at 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT, on Friday, June 9th, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 9th at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., in Huntington, where Ruth attended mass for the past 57 years. Interment will follow in Lawn Cemetery, Huntington.
