Obituary of Mary Ferrara

Mary Ambruso Ferrara, age 103, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Joseph V. Ferrara, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Cambridge Manor, Fairfield surrounded by her loving family. Born in Stamford, CT on January 12, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Rocco and Consiglia Matarese Ambruso. A graduate of Merril's Business School, Mary was a sales representative for E.J. Korvettes and Saks 5th Avenue until her retirement. She formerly resided in Stamford, Port Chester, NY and Ocala, FL, before settling in Bridgeport. A very dedicated mother, she was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and was President of the Mother's Club in Port Chester. She was a Eucharistic minister at her parish in Ocala, and along with her husband volunteered at the senior center and was a member of the church finance committee. Mary also enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, and baking for her family. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Church since 1981. Above all these things she was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and even taught them how to make homemade pasta at the age of 98. She was very independent and lived on her own until recently. She will be truly missed by all and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Survivors include his four loving children, Marilyn Mlynek of Bridgeport, Dolores Hanrahan and her husband, Keith of Trumbull, John Ferrara and his wife, Paula of Old Saybrook and Thomas Ferrara of Derby, ten grandchildren, Richard, Laurin (John), Kathleen (Chris), Kevin (Katie), Kris, Tim (Becky), Jonathon (Sheri), Jessica (Tim), Anthony and Andrew, seven great grandchildren, Cori, Amanda, Brandon, Kailee, Keira, Conrad and Aiden, and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Rosemary Ferrara and her partner Kathy Keane, a great grandson Nathan Stiefel, her son in law, Richard Mlynek, brothers, Daniel, Salvatore and Anthony Ambruso and sisters, Angelina Acanto and Catherine DeLelle. Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Andrew Church, 435 Anton St., Bridgeport on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Darien. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
