Obituary of Joseph P. Goodwin

Joseph P. Goodwin, age 83, beloved husband of Marilyn Cocchiola Goodwin of Trumbull, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center with his family by his side. Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 13, 1933, he was a son of the late Patrick and Bridget Caulfield Goodwin. Joseph was a United States Army veteran serving in the Korean War. Before his retirement he was an auditor with the Department of Defense with over 40 years of dedicated service and later was a groundskeeper for 15 years at Tashua Knolls Golf Course in Trumbull. He graduated from St. John's University and received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Bridgeport. He was an avid sports fan who cheered on the NY Mets, NY Giants, NY Rangers and St. John’s University Basketball. He loved bowling and played in the Christ the King league, the Tashua men’s senior league and on the St. John’s University Bowling Team. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by everyone who knew him. In addition to his beloved wife Marilyn of 52 years, survivors include his three loving children, Joann Bresnahan and her husband Daniel of Wethersfield, Mark Goodwin and his wife Elisa Volpati of Bethel, Kathy Martin and her husband Larry of GA, a sister, Patricia Mattie of NY and ten grandchildren, Brittni Kaufman and her husband Tom, Haley, Luke, Shane and Talia Bresnahan, Xander and Anna Goodwin and Joshua, Julia and Ryan Martin as well as many nieces and nephews. Joseph is predeceased by his sisters, Catherine Cederroth and Marie Genalo, and his brother John Goodwin. The family would like to thank the nurses at St. Vincent’s CHF Clinic and a special thanks to Dr. Frank Spano and Barbara Ginnetti for all their care and compassion. Friends are invited to meet directly in Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Ave., Trumbull on Monday, July 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. Friends may greet the family on Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
