Bernard R. "Cappy" Capodagli, age 83, beloved husband of Gerry Hollywood Capodagli and longtime resident of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at his home with his loving family by his side. Bernard remained at home during the duration of his illness with loving care provided by his daughter, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. Born on December 23, 1932 in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late Anthony America and Carmella Maria Braca Capodagli. Bernard was predeceased by his sister, Florence Esposito and his brother, Anthony Capodagli. In addition to his adoring wife Gerry of 62 years, he is survived by his adoring children, Thomas Capodagli and his wife Sheila of Oxford, and MaryAnn Smith and her husband Richard of Milford; his blessed eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katelyn, and Kristy Capodagli, and Christina, Richie and his wife Talissa, Matthew, Christopher, and Kailey Smith; a sister-in-law Mary Capodagli and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, he is survived by his cat Budwizer. Bernard worked for many years in construction, including E&F Construction, Scanzy, and 21 years at Dichello Distributors. Cappy was a member of the American Legion Post 200, a life member of the Elks #2060, the New England Teamsters Local 443, the Retiree Chapter Local 191, and was a lifelong member of the Marchegian Club in Derby. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Cappy served in the 13th U.S. Air Force from May 1951 to November 1953. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping at Hidden Acres campground with his family for 42 years, where they made many friends and fond memories. Cappy joined the National Association of Naval Veterans Port 5, where he served on the Color Guard and proudly carried the U.S. Air Force flag in many parades, tributes, and ceremonies. Cappy cherished the friends he made there and helping his fellow veterans. The good times, the laughter, and the times of tears. He hosted the Air Force Birthday Celebration for four years with pride. Being Senior Trustee was an honor to him. The family would like to extend a special thanks to CT Hospice for their help, support, and guidance during their time of need.
