Obituary of Carl J. Leonzi, Sr.

Carl J. Leonzi, Sr., age 73, beloved husband of Gail Campoli Leonzi, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2016 at home with his loving family by his side. Born on November 2, 1942 in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late Larry and Mary Kowalchik Leonzi. Carl was a graduate of Central High School and the Bridgeport Police Academy who served 44 years as a patrolman and detective with the Bridgeport Police Department before retiring as a Sergeant in the Narcotics Division – TNT. A Highly respected officer in the city, Carl was also very active with the Bridgeport PAL Christmas Village, the Barnum Festival, and Swim Across the Sound. He was also a member of the Bridgeport Elks Club. In addition to his dedication to the community, Carl enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending all their sporting events, dancing, and school functions. A wonderful and caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, he will be truly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his beloved wife Gail of 50 years, Carl is survived by his children, Carl J. Leonzi, Jr. and wife Vicki of Shelton and Cheri Reardon and husband Phil Sr. of Trumbull; adored grandchildren, Danielle, Philip Jr., and Monica Reardon and dog Sampson, Victoria, Carl III, and Carla Leonzi; cherished siblings, Larry Leonzi and his wife Dee of Trumbull, Raymond Leonzi and his wife Debbie of Trumbull, and Carol Capra and her husband Joe of Wilmington, NC. Carl is also survived by many special brothers-and sisters-in-laws, cousins and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Judy Silvestro and Elaine Leonzi. The family would like to thank all the nurses and aides on 9 South at St. Vincent's Medical Center and the Vitas Hospice caregivers especially Ann, John and Bob for all the care and compassion that was given to Carl during this time as well as a special acknowledgement to Fr. Brian Gannon for all his prayers and blessings. Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull, on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
