Obituary of Joseph J. Fisher

Joseph J. Fisher, age 79, devoted husband, father uncle and friend passed away peacefully on May 8, 2016 with his loving family by his side in Bridgeport Hospital following a nearly three-year courageous battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. A Trumbull resident for forty years, he was born on December 27, 1936 in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Joseph and Victoria Robaczewski Fisher. Joe relocated to Connecticut with his family in 1958 after serving four years in the United States Air Force. He met his beloved wife Pat in 1960 and they shared fifty-four years of marriage. In his early work life, he worked as a carpenter; also at Borden's Dairy and retired in 1995 from SNET/AT&T with twenty-seven years of service as a telephone installation/repair technician. Joe was a man of strong faith, loving his God and being present at Holy Mass at St. Stephen's Church in Trumbull. A lover of all sports, Joe played baseball, basketball, golfed, fished, bowled, cheered for his Detroit Tigers and UCONN Women. Every morning Joe would play a rigorous game of racquetball before starting his day at the telephone company. After his retirement, Joe joined his brother Bob in weekend activities vending at flea markets, especially Redwood in Wallingford. It's something he really enjoyed – meeting lots of bargain hunters and the "thrill of the deal." Joe was an active member of the Lt. R. J. Bower Post 1466 Catholic War Veterans in Black Rock, Bridgeport. In addition to his late parents, Joe was pre-deceased by his sister Mary Ann Boccamazzo; brother David Fisher; mother-in-law Marie Mello; father-in-law Carlos Mello; brothers-in-law Frank Boccamazzo, Robert Novia, Carl Mello and Leonard Novia. Joe is remembered by his cherished family including his wife Patricia Mello Fisher; son Stephen Fisher and his wife Jodie; daughter Sharon Fisher; brother Robert Fisher and his wife Paula; sisters-in-law Irene Novia and Linda Mello; nieces Jean Lakic, Victoria DeWitt, Suzanne Fisher, Judith Gonsalves, Nicole Rascati; nephews Joseph Boccamazzo, Frank Boccamazzo, Nicholas Novia, Michael Novia, Richard Novia, Robert Novia, Thomas Novia, Gary Novia, Adrian Novia, Matthew Novia, Gregg, Dustin and Joshua Mello; several great-nieces and nephews. The Fisher Family would like to express their most heart-felt gratitude to Alice Bennett - Assistant Nurse Manager, Jill Keller – Advanced Nurse Practitioner, and the ENTIRE STAFF of West Tower 7 at Bridgeport Hospital for the loving and compassionate care provided to Joe during his many stays there throughout his illness and especially during his final days. An expression of thanks is extended as well to his Oncologist, Dr. Justin Persico, Hospitalist, Dr. Manisha Gupta, Primary Care Physician, Dr. Joseph Evangelista and the Vitas Hospice Team. Joe's family thanks the Men's Membership and Women's Auxiliary of the R.J. Bower post 1466 Catholic War Veterans, the Women's Group of St. Stephen Church and all of his devoted family and friends for their tremendous support and prayers throughout this journey. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen's Church, 6948 Main Street, Trumbull on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe's memory may be made to the Lt. R.J. Bower Post 1466 Catholic War Veterans, 40 Alfred Street, Bridgeport, CT 06605 – Attention Fred Janes.
