Obituary of Virginia A. Lengel

Virginia Adeline Guida Lengel, age 86, was reunited with her Andy on Monday, February 8, 2016, after a final celebration with her loving family. A lifelong resident of Bridgeport, Ginny was born to the late Louis Guida and Philomena Salvagno Guida, of Troia and Napoli, on June 17, 1929. Ginny met her soon-to-be husband, Andrew Lengel, while he was doing roof work at her lifelong best friend Kay's home, and married Andy at eighteen years old on April 23, 1949. Working as a telephone operator and later receptionist at the Jewish Home for the Elderly, Ginny loved preparing Italian feasts for her friends and family, finding peace at Saint Mary's by the Sea, and catching up on every game of her Yankees! Ginny taught us all that no matter what life throws at someone, the most important things to focus on are love, family, and positivity. She was a beacon of warmth and hope to anyone she crossed paths with. Ginny is survived by four children, Sharon Gombotz and husband David of Bethlehem, PA, Rick Lengel and wife Janyce of Trumbull, CT, Lauren Butler and fiancé Keith Brown of Sandy Hook, CT and Scott Lengel and wife Lisa of Hilton Head, SC; five grandchildren, Stephen Gombotz of Charlotte, NC, Kevin Gombotz of Gainesville, FL, Ryan Lengel of Washington, DC, Lindsay Butler of Hoboken, NJ and Kyle Lengel of Clemson, SC; and five wonderful great-grandchildren. In addition to her loving husband Andy, she was predeceased by her much loved brother, Lou with whom she had a special relationship. Ginny has always been very proud of her entire family and continues to give nothing but love. The "good old days" are filled with endless cherished memories! Ginny and her family give a special thanks to the loving care given to her by Penny and Una. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home. 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
