Obituary of Rosa N. O'Connell

Rosa Nilvo O'Connell, of Trumbull, CT passed away suddenly on November 9, 2015 at St. Vincent's Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Stephen J. O'Connell. Born in New York, New York on March 25, 1958, she was a daughter of the late Antonino and Angelina Gia Nilvo. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Rosa earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Science, from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA in 1988. She was a Registered Nurse for over 25 years, specializing in Geriatrics. She was actively involved in support of the CT Special Olympics, Catholic Family Services, the CT Children's Medical Center, the Yale/New Haven Veterans Medical Center, Trumbull PTA, Odyssey of the Mind, and taught CCD for several years at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church. A devoted and loving wife and mother, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her husband, Steve, other survivors include her loving children, Joshua O'Connell of Stamford and April O'Connell of Trumbull. She is also survived by her step mother, Francesca Nilvo of Belen, NM; her in-laws, James and Joyce O'Connell and Richard and Karen Vining of Plympton, MA; her brothers, Tony Nilvo of Belen, NM, Frank Nilvo of Albuquerque, NM, Joe Nilvo and his wife Jennifer and their children – her niece and nephew - Gianna and Gino Nilvo, of Los Lunas, NM; and her dearest friend, Regina Brinton and her family, of New Castle, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull. Interment with full military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Rd., Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Vincent's Swim Across the Sound, 2800 Main St., Bridgeport, CT 06606.
