Obituary of Jean C. Chen

Jean Chao Chen, beloved wife of Leon Y. Chen, passed away on Monday, October 5th, 2015 in St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. Born in Indonesia in 1925, she was the second eldest (and oldest sister) of a family of 13 siblings. She received her Chinese Board of Education license to teach in her early years and moved to the Canton province in China. There, she met her husband and married in 1949. They soon moved to Taiwan and settled in the city of Taipei where her son, Stanley, and daughter, Gene were born. In 1964, the family immigrated to the United States and settled in Trumbull. She found work at Remington in Bridgeport before her retirement in 1990. She loved all kinds of craftwork and was a firm believer in making her own clothes with her extensive and masterful sewing skills. In addition, she loved to dance and was a fixture at her local senior center. She was an avid traveler and loved visiting her extended family around the United States as well as overseas. Fiercely independent, she prided her own skills, even into her late years, on driving herself everywhere and taking care of her own needs without any assistance. She is pre-deceased by her late beloved husband, Leon, and her beloved daughter Gene. She is survived by her beloved son Stanley and his wife Annie, twin grandchildren Jessica and Sandra; as well as Tabitha, Alexa, and Cody, and their father John. She is also survived by members of her extensive family. A wake will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Her service and internment will be held at the Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 10 a.m.
