Obituary of Frederick W. Haffner Jr.

Frederick W. Haffner, Jr. 84, preceded in death by his wife of 43 years Rosalie H. (Donahue) Haffner, died on May 24, 2015 in Cincinnati, OH. He is survived by his loving children, Maryellyn R. Haffner, Kurt E. Haffner of Cincinnati, OH and Frederick W. Haffner, III and his wife Angela of Garden City, New York. Also survived by his grandchildren, Luke of Cincinnati and Rosalie, Arcangela and Alfred all of Garden City. An active duty war time veteran of the Korean Conflict aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Lake Champlain, member of the VFW and the Navy League. Graduate of Harding High School Class of 1948 as well as a member of the 1947 state champion high school football team. Also graduated from Fairfield University in 1952, and worked at Sikorsky Aircraft for more than 40 years as general superintendent. An active member of the Monroe Democratic Party, former town councilman, P & Z member, charter revision committee chairman, police commissioner, as well as a co-chairman of the Monroe Sesquicentennial. He was an active member of St. Stephen's Parish and subsequently St. Jude Parish. He was also the first Parish Council Chairman for St Jude's as well as a school board member. He was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus and past officer of Monroe Pop Warner Football. Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Jude Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Family and friends may call on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
