Obituary of Stephen M. Swetz

Stephen M. Swetz, age 93, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of the late Mary Palacino Swetz, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Maefair Health Care Center. Born on February 8, 1922 in Sheppton, PA, he was a son of the late John and Ann Krynock Swetz and was a long time resident of Bridgeport. Stephen was a Staff Sargent during World War II serving in the Army Air Corps as a Ball Turret Gunner on a B-24 Liberator and flew 50 missions over Europe. Before his retirement, he was a paint sprayer at Dresser Manufacturing with over 42 years of dedicated service. He was a kind, caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be deeply missed. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Maefair Health Care for all their care, compassion and dedication. Survivors include his three loving children; Linda Matera and her husband Patrick of Shelton, Carol Wengertsman and her husband John of Manchester, and Stephen J. Swetz and his wife Laura of Islip, NY, a brother, Wasil Swetz of Oregon, 11 grandchildren, Dawn, Patrick III, David, Nancy, Peter, Matthew, Tim, Amy, Michael, Andy, Brian, two stepgrandaughters, Andrea and Lauren, and seven great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Andrew Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Wednesday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
